Pediatricians Warn Against Giving Kids Juice

Children under one should not drink juice. And older kids, ages one to three years should have no more than 4-6 ounces of juice per day, according to a recently released statement by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). While the recommendation is not groundbreaking (we’ve heard many health experts offer similar advice), the AAP had never gone as far as to release specific guidelines for children’s juice intake. We asked a few mommies in LA to give us their opinion on this topic. Here is what they said:

I agree. I definitely limit the fruit juice to, if anything, one serving a day. If it’s juice from a bottle, I water it down. A little juice pouch is more of a convenience thing but obviously it’s better to give kids fresh juice from actual fruits.

To me, it’s better to give kids water. Giving kids a lot of juice is not a good idea. Moms who do that are actually harming their kids because they’re giving them too much sugar, which can lead to diabetes. There are so many people with diabetes these days.
