“Anything for Lucia!”
Since my daughter is an only child, I always go all out for her birthdays and usually have a theme. My daughter Lucia and I came up with this year’s theme while watching the movie, Selena in March. I grew up listening to Selena’s music and introduced my daughter to Selena when she was about 4. We’re both huge fans of her music, style, kind heart and dance moves.
We didn’t have a big budget to work with so I ended up making the purple jumpsuit and piñata myself (I’m starting my own piñata business since I found it fairly easy to create). I’ve never sewn more than a button in my whole life but I got it done in four days!
The things we do for our children!
The photo booth props were generously given to us by Mi Vida Boutique in Highland Park and they also made the Selena signature for the backdrop.
The delicious chocolate-on-chocolate cake was made by a family friend.
To make it a true Selena-themed party, we served our guests pepperoni pizza with Tapatio Sauce, Doritos, and Coca Cola. To keep the theme going, I also included “fotos y recuerdos” of my daughter as a baby and used pictures of Selena as centerpieces at each table with white and red roses placed inside Coke bottles.
An additional yummy and interesting dessert we had was mango-chili cotton candy with Tajin by the ladies from Love Swirls.
Lucia is an A student who consistently brings home 3’s and 4’s on her report card. She finished the year strong by receiving the Principal’s Award, a Citizenship Award, Academic Excellence, Excellence in Math and her robotics team won first place in the school competition. She works very hard at school so our family and friends wanted to reward her for all the hard work with a memorable party!
