The MomWarrior
Ambitious. Driven. Independent.
These were the words that described Tet Salva before she became a mother. And now as a mom to four young girls, had this changed? It was a question she started asking herself.
“Being a mom has given me some battle scars – literally and figuratively!”
It took some time but Salva realized there were many things that defined her – and being a mom just happened to be one of them.
“We are so much more, especially after we become moms. I think we tend to forget how much of a warrior we are in the midst of diaper changes, school pick-ups, meal preparation, laundry, working a job, and the list goes on. But I still consider myself ambitious, driven, and independent. It’s just now, there’s a twist since I’m also raising four girls.”
After talking to countless mothers about the challenges, joys, and realities posed by the journey of motherhood, Salva decided to organize an event for moms and recruited moms with different backgrounds and experiences to serve as panelists and speakers. She called it the MomWarrior™ event.
“MomWarrior is a movement dedicated to empowering mothers through connection and purpose. It’s changing the conversation around women and mothers, providing a platform to share ideas and stories with one another, ranging from topics around motherhood bias, becoming a mom entrepreneur, to raising kids as feminists,” says Salva. “MomWarrior is dedicated to mothers of today who are raising our next generation of change makers. To raise kids who are empowered, independent, compassionate, culturally literate, and socially aware – we need to embody these values, too.”
Salva held her first MomWarrior event in San Ramon, California in May, much to the delight of dozens of women who were looking for other mothers to connect with and share stories of the mom struggle.
One of the mom attendees told Salva: “This was something I really needed. I knew there were other moms out there, but I don’t feel as alone in the journey. I know we’re all experiencing this together.”
Another woman was so inspired by MomWarrior that she took the experience to her company and now they’re planning to host a MomWarrior event in 2018 to empower their staff of women and working moms.
The MomWarrior event received local media coverage and one local mom approached Salva and suggested she host a similar event in Los Angeles. Now Salva’s getting ready to share that same energy with women in Los Angeles at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica on Friday, September 15, 2017.
“There are MomWarriors everywhere. So when I was asked if I would do an event in LA, I decided to go for it. Motherhood is not an easy feat. Instead of being silent about the ideas and thoughts swirling in our heads, why not create a platform where we can all share that and support one another? And why not in LA? The more MomWarriors we get in our tribe and community, the better. We’re all in this together,” says Salva.
Mommy In Los Angeles® is proud to be partnering with MomWarrior® for this unique event. We support Tet Salva’s mission to offer moms a platform to get motivated; to find their purpose, their identity and honor their inner girl, even with the responsibility of raising children.
