Mom Blogger Monday: Naza Holliman

Sweet P and Sky

Naza Holliman is an LA Mom with an adventurous spirit. She recently hiked to Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous U.S., proudly checking off the trip from her bucket list. For the journey, Naza ventured out with no kids and no husband. She went with a friend and met with nature, where she was able to reflect and recharge. The experience led Naza to start thinking about a return trip.  “I plan to go back to conquer the mountain,” she says.

This ‘free spirit’ mommy of two boys: Princeton, 3 and Skyler, 1; and 15-year-old stepdaughter, Hailey, is proudly raising a bicultural family.

Her love of exploring and finding fun things to do around Los Angeles was such that she decided to create her blog, Sweet P and Sky (after her boys’ names). Recently, Naza has launched “Sweet P and Sky Play Dates,” where she coordinates and organizes fun-filled play dates for Los Angeles area parents and their kids. She has partnered with CityMoms App on bringing dance classes and other fun activities to kids in LA.

“I’m always looking for fun experiences to expose my kids to, since they are my constant companions,” she says.

In her blog, Naza writes about everything from LA beauty salons with childcare services to
new exhibits at local museums; product reviews and parenthood (We love her post titled Mourning Their Smallness where she expresses her feelings about watching her boys grow).

You are one cool mama, Naza! Keep writing those good stories and planning those fun play dates. We can’t wait to see you “conquer the mountain!”

What inspired you to become a blogger?

There is so much to experience in this world and I’m hungry to try it all.  I wanted to share my life as a mother, a wife and an adventurer. In the beginning, Instagram was that outlet. I shared snippets of our lives through pictures, but eventually that wasn’t enough. As friends, family and complete strangers began asking for more details about the food we ate, the places we visited and our adventures, I slowly and reluctantly started designing a blog. It was one thing to put pictures out there, it’s another thing putting thoughts and feelings out there for the world to read. I was scared and shy. What is it they say, ‘get out of your comfort zone?’ I did that. It was worth it. If my blog helps people get out and explore the world around them as a family, I’ve succeeded.

What is your proudest Mommy Blogger Moment?

My proudest moment was the very first time I was asked to cover an event as media/press. This was an event that I badly wanted to attend and would have very likely purchased tickets for. As someone who was basically writing for myself and a few followers interested in our adventures, having my opinion valued by a major family organization meant the world to me and gave me the confidence to go on.

What’s your favorite place to take the kids in LA?

The LA Zoo, hands down.  I love the long walks and special talks that the boys and I have while exploring the zoo. It’s something else to see the wonder on their faces as they watch their favorite animals and ask all about them.

What’s your favorite LA hang out without the kids?

I have a serious case of wanderlust, but with two toddlers, we are simply not comfortable going too far. So hubby and I go on as many weekend getaways and small road trips as possible. We go to places like The Salton Sea, exploring all of its strange sites and sounds…and smells. We love driving up north, hiking Big Sur, dining in Carmel and hanging out Cannery Row.  Hubby and I like to explore and the city we live in is full of endless adventures.  We  like to experience new restaurants and have foodie adventures with interesting/bizarre foods. We hike, we do escape rooms, murder mystery dinners, we go to museums and even get to see a movie once in a blue moon. This past weekend we kayaked the LA River.

What’s your best motherhood advice?

When you feel like you can’t go on and everything is going wrong (mother of toddlers), turn on some music and just dance.  They’ll drop whatever they were not supposed to be doing and join you.  I’ve turned some pretty awful days around with a simple dance session.
