Fashion with an Ultra-lightweight approach

Luft, the German word for “air”, or in this case, MCM’s spring/summer 2019 collection, boldly celebrates “freedom of movement and hands-free travel.”

Aptly named, the Luft collection reminds us of the luxury brand’s German roots infused with a modern, lightweight approach–– “airy”, if you will. The staple leather goods easily recognized by MCM’s classic monogram are, of course, present and the brand’s heritage is woven throughout the collection.

However, it is no secret that the emphasis with SS 2019 line is on the non-leather accessories constructed from innovative materials, such as nylon– creating ultra-lightweight, yet highly functional pieces.

This same “ultra-lightweight” approach also resonated heavily on what was perhaps, the most exciting part of the preview: the brand’s first full ready-to-wear collection.

As Dan Manioci, MCM’s Director of Marketing in the U.S., told us, “movement & accessibility within street styling was a big part of the collection.”

The influence of the newly appointed, young in-house design team, is reflected heavily throughout the gender-neutral pieces that were designed with comfort and functionality at its core, so that one may travel and journey the world as freely [and fashionable] as possible.

Just recently, former Adidas Creative Director, Dirk Schönberger, joined MCM as Global Creative Officer. It will be exciting and interesting to see how Schönberger will lead MCM. It’s expected that he will continue to push the brand’s modern and futuristic approach forward. And we are here for it.
