Free Car Seat Checks, Caregiver Resource Network and Benefit Claim Support Among Resources Available for New and Expecting Parents and Caregivers

California’s Paid Family Leave (PFL) program is hosting a free resource fair on Friday, March 23 at the Roy Anderson Recreation Hall at LA Expo Center for Los Angeles families of new or expecting parents, or those caring for a sick or injured family member. The event will take place from 11am to 1pm.

In partnership with local community organizations, the event will feature 18 service providers to educate, inform, and provide attendees with resources and benefits, including in-person PFL claim support, available to individuals who are, or will be, welcoming a new child into their home or providing care for a family member.

California’s PFL program provides up to six weeks of partial wage replacement benefits to bond with a new child (either welcomed into the family by birth, adoption, or foster care placement) or to care for a seriously ill family member (child, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, spouse, or registered domestic partner). The program is funded through State Disability Insurance tax withholdings, and benefits provide approximately 60 to 70 percent of the participant’s salary.

Service providers in attendance include First 5 LA, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and the California Department of Insurance.
