Cake Monkey, the LA-based brand & bakery known for its whimsical, updated takes on nostalgic childhood snack treats, will open its second shop in the Westlake Commons in Westlake Village on Friday, August 31.

Guests will be able to indulge their sweet cravings with fan favorites such as the Black & White Cakewich (Chocolate Cake Sandwich filled with Vanilla Cream, Valrhona Crunchy Pearls and coated in Bittersweet Chocolate, inspired by Ding Dongs), the El Rollo (Chocolate Cake rolled up with Vanilla Cream, Coated with Bittersweet Chocolate, inspired by Ho Hos), and their signature Mini Layer Cakes (in flavors ranging from Chocolate Malt to Tripple Berry Crumble), to name a few.

Co-Owner & Pastry Chef Elizabeth Belkind will also introduce a new lineup of sweet and savory breakfast and lunch selections unique to the location, with more items – and beer and wine! – expected later this year.

“When Elizabeth and I first started production in my home kitchen over ten years ago, opening even one storefront was the ultimate fantasy,” said Co-Owner and lifelong dessert devotee Lisa Olin

What began as a wholesale business quickly developed both a cult following and critical praise from local and national food communities – and led to the opening of their first shop in Beverly Grove in 2015. “I thrive on our customers’ excitement over what we sell, so I couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to introduce and share my passion for sweets with a new community.”

Cake Monkey’s playful nod to nostalgia is also reflected in the bakery & café’s design, which incorporates a blend of retro and modern elements – and the brand’s pink and white color scheme. Customers can also expect to see vintage recipes incorporated into the wallpaper, pink mosaic tile accents, and their signature neon “Enjoy Life Eat Cake” sign in the 1,000 square foot space, which boasts room for 20 seats inside and 16 seats outside.

Cake Monkey will be open for breakfast, lunch, and pastries Monday – Friday from 7AM – 7PM, Saturday from 8AM – 7PM, and Sunday from 7AM – 6PM. (Note: to start, new breakfast & lunch items will be available until 2PM each day with expanded hours – and more items – coming down the line.)
