Closing the Generational Gap Through Play
By Annette Uribe, Fitness Contributor & Founder, Healthy Vida for Mom
Tots 2 Seniors is a class unlike any other Mommy and Me Class I have been to.
It’s a Multi-Generational class where children have the opportunity to interact with each other and with seniors.
My 16-month-old son soon became very well acquainted with the tots and seniors in the class. As everyone settled in, he enjoyed his free play with all the toys at the beginning of the class.
Elisa Schoenfeld is the founder of Tots 2 Seniors. She remembers loving how her grandparents smiled and laughed with her and her cousins. And she came up with an idea to combine the two populations she is so passionate about— seniors and toddlers.
Elisa is an amazing teacher with a lot of enthusiasm and compassion. Currently, aside from Tots 2 Seniors, Elisa teaches a Mommy and Me class and a Grandparent and Me class at a private preschool in Los Angeles.
It was so much fun to see the little ones and the seniors participate in their activities of puppets, storytelling, song, dance and bubbles. Elisa does an amazing job closing the gab between these generations. As a mom, it was a beautiful experience to see the young children play with the elderly and put a smile on their faces.
Even parents learn a thing or two in class because the seniors are so wise and have tons of advice for first-time parents! Everyone benefits so much out of this program, it’s a win/win for all – including the adults who bring the children to the class!
