Breaking Barriers to Employment Initiative
Two transitional homes will receive career training
Two local nonprofits in San Bernardino are taking a significant step forward in supporting justice-impacted individuals, thanks to funding provided by the Breaking Barriers to Employment Initiative through the California Workforce Development Board.
The first program co-hort will serve dozens of participants at Mary’s Village, a transitional living program for unhoused men, and Mary’s Haven, a transitional living program for displaced women with young children.
“We are here in San Bernardino, and we’re going to prepare our community for a better future,” said Carolina Chavez Gonzalez, Founder of Community Reciprocity Development, an organizations that received funding through this grant. “The participants are ready to welcome the Career Choices and Changes program that will help them find a path toward employment.”
The Breaking Barriers grant will empower those affected by incarceration, trauma, homelessness, or a combination of challenges by helping them develop skills and create meaningful career paths.
Community Reciprocity Development, along with PCS Family Services of Pomona serving as their Fiscal Sponsor is determined to support participants in building self-awareness, exploring their skills and talents, and discovering career paths that align with their goals.
Chavez Gonzalez, will lead the program as the primary instructor two days a week and class instruction will include a computer lab for the development of a personalized 10-year career blueprint to guide participants toward their futures.
The Breaking Barriers to Employment Initiative highlights the power of collaboration and local leadership in building opportunities for the community’s most vulnerable individuals.
