Explore Antiquarian Books, Ephemera, and Maps at the Iconic Union Station on October 5-6, 2024

Book lovers and collectors, mark your calendars! Rare Books LA is coming to Los Angeles Union Station on October 5-6, 2024, featuring top specialists in antiquarian books, ephemera, and maps. This highly anticipated event will take place in the historic Ticket Concourse, a picturesque setting that has been featured in numerous classic films and television shows.

The event will showcase a wide range of rare and unique items, including a first edition of Raymond Chandler’s “Farewell, My Lovely” inscribed to the husband of his private secretary, a signed limited edition of George Gershwin’s Song Book, and a first edition of “The Langston Hughes Reader” inscribed by the Harlem Renaissance writer to Random House publisher Bennett Cerf.

Rare Books LA is more than just rare books. Exhibitors will also offer rare maps, vintage photographs, unique ephemera, and original works on paper. Visitors can expect to see nearly 30 broadsides and song sheets illustrated by Jose Guadalupe Posada, the legendary Mexican printmaker, as well as vibrant vintage posters, including a World War I book drive lithograph.

“You won’t want to miss the opportunity to see so many unique treasures all under the most striking Art Deco ceiling in Los Angeles,” said Rare Books LA Director Jodi Tolan. “Hop on the train and visit more than 50 rare bookshops at once. If you find something of interest, you can even take it home!”

Tickets to the book fair are $20 on Saturday and $15 on Sunday, with a weekend pass available for $25. The event will take place on Saturday, October 5, from 10am-6pm, and Sunday, October 6, from 11am-4pm.

In conjunction with the book fair, a series of talks by local authors, historians, and collectors will be presented, including discussions on the preservation of the America Tropical mural, the secrets of the LA City Library’s stacks, and the magic of book collecting.

Los Angeles Union Station is a convenient and transit-friendly location, with ample parking starting at $8. Visitors can also take advantage of the station’s connections to Metrolink, Metro Rail, and Amtrak.
