New Feature Combines Decodable Skills with Developed Storylines and Advanced Vocabulary, Enhancing Personalized Reading Instruction for Children
Ello, the developer of the world’s most advanced AI reading app, has launched a groundbreaking new feature called Storytime, which allows children to create their own books. This innovative feature combines decodable skills with developed storylines and advanced vocabulary, providing kids with an engaging and personalized reading experience.
With Storytime, children can choose their favorite settings, characters, and plots, and Ello’s AI technology creates a story tailored to their reading level. The interactive experience allows kids to practice new vocabulary and phonics skills out loud while Ello reads the personalized story. This feature is designed to support parents with struggling readers and provides a fun and educational journey for children in grades K-3.
Ello’s engineering team has conducted extensive safety tests and human reviews to ensure that Storytime is safe and appropriate for children. The feature includes guardrails, such as a predetermined set of story options, to prevent children from creating inappropriate content.
Unlike other Generative AI tools, Storytime books fit into a scope and sequence of Science of Reading phonics instruction. For example, a child practicing their “ch” sound can ask Ello to create a story about a cat making friends at school, and Ello will strategically place words like “chair” and “cheer” in the story to help the child practice reading those words out loud.
“We are thrilled to bring our newest version of Ello to families,” said Dr. Elizabeth Adams, Co-founder and CXO of Ello. “Giving kids some control over the content they are reading helps to support their motivation to read by reflecting their interests and lives. Our GenAI technology makes it possible to create these books quickly, and we are now able to build books that combine the important phonics skills kids need to become strong readers with natural language text that gives them access to more advanced vocabulary and storylines.”
Ello’s subscription app offers families access to reading coaching for $14.99/month, with a discounted price of $2.99/month for families who receive government assistance. The app works on iPhones and iPads running iOS 14 and newer. Ello has also made its library of decodable children’s books available online for free and has partnered with low-income schools to offer the subscription for free.
