The LOVESTALGIA MOM

Before becoming a mom, Sally Kim taught first grade for ten years. And she always took photos to capture everyday life moments.

“I find it hard to delete any, even if they are dark and out of focus,” says Sally.

After the arrival of her daughter, who is now four-years-old, the mommy from Orange found the perfect outlet to post some of those photos– she created a warm and visually appealing blog, Lovestalgia, where she gives her readers plenty to smile about. From “Nine Unique Photo Ops at Disneyland” (did you know the backyard of Minnie’s House in Toontown has a tea table?) to “Nine Summer Activity Ideas for Toddlers in Orange County“, Kim has it covered. She became a mom at 38 and has fully embraced motherhood in her 40s.

Among her upcoming mommy goals: to learn to ride a bike so she can experience new adventures with her little one.

“I don’t know how to ride a bike and never found the need to learn. But now that I’m a mom, maybe I should so I can ride with my daughter.”

We love your blog, Mama! Keep up the good work and keep taking those photos… we really enjoy them (all 42,000 of your Instagram followers)!

What inspired you to become a blogger?

I wanted to share information about our travels, love of Disney and stories of motherhood. I’ve always been a resource for my real life friends because I like finding out about fun things to do with kids or products I like so I thought putting it out there on a blog would be a good resource for whoever needs it or finds it interesting.

What is your proudest Mommy Blogger Moment?

My proudest Mommy Blogger moment was when I shared about my two miscarriages I had in a year before I had my daughter. It was something very scary for me to share only because I’m usually a pretty private person. But sharing it was also healing in a way and it also resonated with so many readers. I got a lot of emails and messages from other women who went through something similar.

What’s your favorite place to take the kids in LA?

Well, aside from Disneyland (which I know isn’t in LA), we love going to museums. The La Brea Tar Pits, Natural History Museum and Discovery Cube are always a hit with our family.

What’s your favorite LA hang out without the kids?

Prior to having our daughter, we used to explore LA to find good places to eat. We still love food adventures and recently discovered Angel City Brewery which was so much fun.

Your best motherhood advice?

My best motherhood advice would be to be kind to yourself- don’t compare yourself to others whether they are doing more or less than you. As long as your child is happy, kind, clean, sleeps, and fed- you’re doing an amazing job. So many times we compare ourselves to others and how they are doing more than us or we are doing more than them. I think when we compare ourselves, it steals the joy in where we are at. You should strive to do your best for your family but that will look different than whatever is best for someone else’s family.
