Genesis USA awarded the J. Paul Getty Museum $500,000 on Tuesday as part of its two-year charitable commitment to innovating education in communities. The grant will fund education initiatives to benefit Title 1 high schools in Los Angeles.

A special grant presentation ceremony took place at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, in conjunction with the kick-off of the 2018 Genesis Open.

“At Genesis, it is our mission to support initiatives and organizations that impact and advance the communities in which we operate,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis Motor America.

Kate Fabian, head of Genesis Marketing Communications added: “We believe the experience we provide is just as important as the vehicles themselves…In supporting the arts, we believe that kids can enjoy better educational outcomes.”

The Genesis-Getty program is designed to provide local youth with curriculum-based challenges and programs that link 21st century ideas of creativity and the arts–– with lifelong critical thinking and communication principles.

Last year marked the first time Genesis Motor USA awarded a grant. The luxury car brand selected The J. Paul Getty Museum as the recipient of a $250,000 grant donation.

The museum applied the funds to create a groundbreaking arts enrichment program labeled  Unshuttered. The program was designed to give students access to the arts through an immersive experience held in their communities and via online platforms.

The #Unshuttered program will debut its website on March 10. Thousands of high school students from underserved and Title 1 Schools in the Los Angeles area are expected to participate in the program at the Getty Center, with potentially thousands more joining in the experience online.

“We call this program Unshuttered which is a play both on shutter speed but also on the idea of opening up and shedding light,” said Lisa Clemens, Assistant Director, Education, Public Programs and Interpretive Media at the  J. Paul Getty Museum. “The students are learning a lot in this program but what may not be as clear, but is equally true, is how much my team learns from them every day.”

The Genesis Open is bringing the next chapter in championship golf to the Riviera Country Club February 12 – 18, 2018.

With the sale of every Genesis model in the U.S., a donation is made to arts enrichment programs serving children across the country.
