The Ultimate Mom Guide to Family-Friendly Concerts at The Hollywood Bowl

Forever Summer 2024

A Memory-Making Night Out in Hollywood

By Anabel Marquez

For moms navigating the exciting but often treacherous waters of summer family entertainment, the Hollywood Bowl’s Forever Summer 2024 program promises a trove of memory-making experiences.

The LA Philharmonic has designed a summer line-up that marries musical genius with family fun, and this guide is your compass to sail those seas with ease. From themed concerts and the classics– to fireworks spectaculars, this season is set to mesmerize young and old alike.

Finding Your Rhythm:

Forever Summer 2024 kickstarts with “Opening Night at the Bowl: Henry Mancini 100th Celebration” on Sunday, June 23, where the stage is set for a dazzling display of talent.

The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and special guests like Michael Bublé, David Koz, Cynthia Erivo and Monica Mancini will “raise the curtain on the Bowl’s 2024 season with a 100th birthday celebration for the great Henry Mancini.”

Mancini was a 20-time Grammy winning composer of favorite songs and scores ranging from Moon River and the score for The Pink Panther and appeared regularly on the Bowl’s stage, conducting 29 times. All proceeds from Hollywood Bowl Opening Night will benefit the Los Angeles Philharmonic and its programs.

Harmony Under the Stars: Family Movie Nights

Few experiences compare with watching clips from popular films on the grand screens of the Hollywood Bowl, backed by a live orchestra breathing fresh life into the storylines.

This season’s line-up includes “Maestro of the Movies: John Williams with the LA Phil” during three nights of movie music from Hollywood’s Golden Age and contemporary favorites;

“Disney 80’s-90’s Celebration in Concert” highlighting songs and clips from the iconic Disney films of the two decades with special guest singers expected to join.

Other big nights include “Barbie The Movie in Concert” and “Marvel Studios’ Infinity Saga Concert Experience.”

Evening Overtures: Jazz and Fireworks

For the nights when you’re ready to swap the jazzy lullabies for something a bit swing-a-licious, Jazz nights create an elegant ambiance over the Bowl with the verve of world-renowned jazz musicians, including Pink Martini featuring China Forbes on Saturday, August 24, which is sure to have your little jazz babies grooving alongside you.

For fireworks shows, check out “Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks” on August 3, where “cymbals crash, horns blare, and fireworks blast into the sky” at the Hollywood Bowl’s most thrilling summer tradition.

Keep in mind the golden rule of layering, as LA nights can surprise with their temperature changes. And logistics-wise, consider your parking options or opt for the convenience of shuttles or rideshare. For families that rock, efficiency is the ultimate encore.
